Cat Behavior Problems

CrazyCat Cat Behavior ProblemsAre you having cat behavior problems?  If so then do not worry, many of the things that your cat does is normal and can be controlled or stopped entirely.  In this article we are going to go over one of the main behavior problems that cats can have.  Now before we go too deep in to this issue I want to remind you to always ask your vet about any activity that seems way out of the ordinary, you want to make sure that your cat is healthy.  Alright, so are you ready to solve the most common cat behavior problem?

During the season of Spring many people find that their cats are waking up at the crack of dawn and rampaging around the house.  This is natural, although no one wants to be awake at 5 AM because of a cat who wants to go on a hunting spree.  Cats are naturally hunters at dawn and dusk, this means that the hours of 3 AM and 5 AM become the perfect time for a cat to go hunting.  Now the majority of cats are indoor pets so they do not have any real prey to chase, no mice, rats, or birds.  For this reason they simply make their own prey, the random nick – knacks that decorate a shelf or a dresser, your feet or hands, or even the other dogs and cats in the house all become the new prey.

This can become very annoying and usually results in you getting out of bed and locking the cat out of the bedroom for an hour or so in order for you to get some sleep.  Now if you have a cat that will start to meow in order to get out, you have a whole new problem on your hands!  So how do you solve this problem?  You make the cat very tired!  Before bedtime play with the cat for a while, find all the random toys that the cat has lost under the couch and give the cat a lot of attention.  Continue to play with the cat until the cat is too lazy to even chase the toy anymore, when it is simply laying down on its side then you are done.

Do this and the cat should remain sleeping in the mornings and is not going to wake you up in the early mornings anymore, if the cat still does wake up at 5 AM and decides to go on a hunting spree in your home then you have one more option.  The cat is going to have his or her own room for a little while, this is not a punishment so make sure that the cat understands this.  Make sure that the room is comfortable for the cat, that it has a nice bed, a litter box, and plenty of food and water.  Place some toys in the room for the cat to play with and every night when you put the cat in to the room give the cat a treat.  This is going to make it so that the cat looks forward to the treat and to bedtime.  If you have a window that the cat can watch the birds out of then that is a perfect room for the cat and a great way to keep him or her entertained.
