Cat Training For This Cat
My female cat decides that she likes to pee on the couches. It seems as if she only does it when my mom comes home from being away for an extended period of time, this time about 4 days. Its not the couches since we have already had to replace them. We are thinking that we might need to get rid of the cat. Does anyone know why she does this and how we can get her to stop…oh and cat training spray does not work.

There’s a product called Feliway – it plugs in to the wall like some of those oil air freshner plug ins do. When my cat started having issues – ie, peeing outside his box.. It really worked well for resolving the issue of my cat acting out behaviorally… I used the diffuser, still have some left over… I keep it for use when moving, so the cats will adjust better to their new home each time… but they also sell it in a spray form, if you’d prefer that over diffusing…
With the pattern of what she is doing, it seems likely it is behavioral than medical. She is upset at the absences.
Since the training spray doesn’t work, then use a different method. A scat mat will keep her off the couch. I have provided a link to one that I used. It doesn’t drain the battery, as only when the cat walks on it, it completes the circuit, sounding the alarm, which is a smoke detector alarm. They don’t do that twice.
The second link is an alternate type, which comes in various sizes. It too is supposed to work well, although I have no experience with it.
You may be able to devise a method of defusing her being upset at the absence. Perhaps a different amount of attention around the absences. But, sometimes it is hard to satisfy an upset cat.

It could be she is trying to mark her terrority since your mom has been outside and might have some other smell on her. You might want to pick your cat up and put her in the litter box before your mom comes in the door. Have fun with the kitty I wish I didn’t have to give mine away soon.
