Excessive Meowing

OK here is the scenario, it’s 3am in the morning and your cat is meowing excessively in front of your bedroom door. Now we all know that the cat wants something. They say that cats only meow to humans. Really amongst other cats there is no “talking or meowing” unless of course another cat ticks off your cat.
Cats talk to each other through body language, so when they meow it’s a way of getting our attention. Now back to the problem the cat wants something. I can easily tell what happened you either; let your cat outside in the past and now it wants to go out, you aren’t feeding it enough food or it just wants to be with you in your bedroom.
All these problems usually comes from something we allowed the cat to do in the past and now it wants to do it again. Now in the case of feeding it, maybe you should keep more food out at night. You can do one of two things to get it to stop meowing. You can give in and allow it to do what it wants to do or you just have to keep ignoring their meowing. Believe it or not they will eventually stop.
My cat wanted to come into my bedroom at 3am in the morning. You would think that there was a burglar trying my bedroom door! He would meow and also bang against the door like he was going to kick it down!
It all started from the fact that I previously allowed him into my bedroom and now he wanted back in. So I kept ignoring him and sometimes I even had to put my headphones on! Now he stopped that bad habit!
Try to always examine the situation. Has anything changed? Are you playing with your cat less? Or are you feeding it less? Changed its diet? Do you have a new person living with you or a new animal in the house? In cases like that the cat just needs some TLC. If you comfort it and sooth its concerns all should go well. All it needs is just some more attention so that it can feel safe or comfortable again.
Now there is another scenario, your cat is meowing for no good reason (that’s what you might be thinking). Then I would be kind of concerned. Why? One of the only ways a cat has to communicate any discomfort they are in is by making noise. Does your cat have fleas? Check it for any cuts or a broken tail. Run your hands along their body and study their reactions; look for any particular discomfort when you touch any areas and investigate fully if your cat does express any sign of pain. Check their eyes, ears and teeth for any problems such as infections, and ensure their claws are trimmed and healthy looking. If you do find any problems, book an appointment with your veterinarian. If there are no external signs then there could be something wrong internally. In that case always talk to your vet and see what you should do next.
Watch out if they cry whenever they use the litter box. It could be signs of kidney stones or other bowl problems. When the problem is physical always get the advice of a veterinarian. Sometimes the problem is psychological and it just needs comfort. Then there are times when it just wants its own way, then you have to just ignore it and it will eventually stop over time. The most important thing that I need to emphasize is always try and examine why the cat is meowing. Think, think and think some more. Don’t assume anything. Good luck!
